One simple approach is the "bookend" method, which combines in-class activities with lectures. To begin, use advance organizers by asking students questions about key concepts from their prior knowledge. Then, incorporate short intermittent activities, such as think-pair-share or in-class polling, into the lecture. These activities should take no more than 5 minutes, but are engaging enough to keep students focused and involved. By using the bookend approach, you can create a dynamic and interactive classroom environment that fosters student engagement and critical thinking.

2. Team Based Learning

​

Cooperative learning is a structured approach to team-based learning that is guided by five key principles: positive interdependence, individual accountability, promotive face-to-face interaction, group goal processing, and interpersonal skills application. Some examples of cooperative learning techniques include jigsaw, group investigation, complex instruction, team games tournament, fishbowl discussions, and open-ended problem solving in a team. The main objective of this approach is to develop real team-working skills and problem-solving and critical thinking skills in students, preparing them for success in the workplace. Cooperative learning helps students learn to work effectively in teams, communicate effectively with others, and think critically and creatively to solve problems.

3. Hybrid Learning

The current pandemic has posed challenges in teaching and learning, leading to the adoption of a hybrid approach that combines online and in-person elements. In this module, we will explore the concept of hybrid learning and how to effectively implement it in the classroom. We will distinguish between hybrid learning and hybrid classrooms, and discuss strategies for leveraging this approach to optimize learning outcomes. By the end of this module, participants will have a clear understanding of hybrid learning and the skills needed to effectively implement it in their own teaching.

4. Flipped Classroom

​

The Flipped Classroom approach is a teaching method where students watch videos and complete quizzes or assignments related to the topic before coming to class. During class, instead of a traditional lecture, students participate in interactive activities such as discussion, problem-solving, or hands-on projects that help them apply and deepen their understanding of the material. This approach allows for a more personalized and engaging learning experience, and helps students develop self-directed learning skills and a lifelong love of learning.

5. Reflective Learning Practices

​

In this module, you will learn about the importance of reflection in effective learning. You will understand what reflection is and why it is important for learners to reflect on their learning experiences. You will also explore different types of reflection activities that can be used in the classroom and learn how to be a reflective practitioner yourself. By the end of this module, you will have gained a deeper understanding of the role of reflection in teaching and learning and be able to implement it in your own practice.

6. Alternative Assessments

In this module, we will explore the concept of alternative assessment and its importance in education. We will delve into the various types of alternative assessments and how to effectively develop and implement them in the classroom. We will also discuss the importance of creating instructional materials and rubrics that align with these assessments. This module is designed for educators looking to expand their assessment repertoire and improve the quality of student learning outcomes.

7. Practicing Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS)

In this module, we will explore the importance of incorporating Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) in the classroom. Participants will learn about the various types of HOTS, including analysis, synthesis, evaluation, and application, and how to effectively incorporate these skills into their teaching practices. We will also discuss strategies for promoting and assessing HOTS in the classroom, as well as the benefits of doing so for both students and educators. By the end of this module, participants will have a better understanding of how to effectively integrate HOTS into their teaching to enhance student learning and critical thinking skills.
